C immediately starts to investigate and put parts together, in this shot, the power plug.

After months of anticipation after being one of the 13,000 funders who raised more than $1.5 million for the start-up Kano on Kickstarter, we were psyched to receive our ‘Make your own computer kit.” The fabulously designed and packaged kit is on par with the likes of Apple. But this is just part 1.

Part 1 is putting together the kit, but part 2 is cross-breeding this with Cyntech’s HDMIPi kit to create a unique mutant.

We’ve been collaborating with Cyntech to have a powered (i.e. with battery)  HDMIPi. Together with UNICEF’s James Cranwell-Ward they have already developed a superior housing and screen solution, and have a different Pi to try. (You can read more about this innovation and its impact in Lebanon here.)

Apart from being insanely excited, my son has also started naming the versions to be. I’m dubbing the initial crossbreed Pi2 (squared,) my son is calling it the ‘Pablet,’ because the housing and power solutions will turn the Pi into a powered tablet.

In a future version we’re planning to upgrade to a touchscreen, which he intends to name his ‘PiPad’. I can’t compete with that, it’s too catchy!
