While I too am a rapid, chain mail deleter, there are two kinds welcome in my in-box: the odd, truly inspiring piece of in-box life wisdom, and the zany pass-it-on buddy q&a. Here’s my scoop on the latest of the latter kind — what’s yours?

> 1. IN WHAT DO YOU LIVE: My over-priced but film-worthy-viewed apartment in Manhattan

> 2. WHAT BOOK ARE YOU READING NOW: Bright lights, big city and Under the banner of heaven

> 3. WHAT’S ON YOUR MOUSE PAD: It’s a cool Turkish ruglet bought in Istanbul on my first trip there a few years ago.

> 4. FAVOURITE BOARD GAME: Monopoly… that’s ZAR100 for Jan Smuts (i.e. Park Avenue) with two houses, thank you. Actually, someone has to update that South African version, Eloff street as the blue chip property? Hello!

> 5. FAVOURITE MAGAZINE: Dwell, a sublime design and architecture mag that appeals to the modern, enviro-friendly home owner. (Metropolitan Home and Harpers run close seconds.)

> 6a. FAVOURITE SMELLS: The smell of Jay fresh from the shower :0)
> 6b. LEAST FAVOURITE SMELLS: The disgusting liquid that oozes out the sides and bottom of garbage trucks as they’re compressing the trash — that has to be among the vilest stenches on earth.

> 7. FAVOURITE SOUND: Waves on the ocean, beach

> 8. WORST FEELING IN THE WORLD: Regret

> 9. WHAT’S THE 1ST THING YOU THINK OF WHEN YOU WAKE
> UP IN THE MORNING: How can it possibly be 7:30am already?

> 16. DO YOU LIKE TO DRIVE FAST: Depends on when, where and what I’m behind the wheel of.

Dr. Buttercup

> 19. WHAT TYPE WAS YOUR FIRST CAR: A British racing green coloured mini constructued from two separate cars — the back half from an 1100cc, the front half from a 1000cc model. Purchase price ZAR 650. I boasted on the good deal to my dad saying, “You can’t get a car for ZAR650!”, to which he wisely replied, “You’re right. That’s what I’m worried about!”

> 20. MEET ONE PERSON DEAD OR ALIVE: Difficult question for me, I keep thinking if it was a ‘wish’ I would want to see my late Dad again. But in the vein of celebrities, probably either Mandela or Clinton again.
