Christmas Eve finds us preparing a new family tradition. This evening it will be gammon two ways; the first glazed with browned, caramelized pineapple and cherry, the second done in a savoury style. We were fortunate to find gammon, which isn’t known in the States. The deli at Balducci’s received it by accident… they must have known we were coming :0)

This will be accompanied by some delicious garlic, mashed potatoes and broccoli, followed by chocolate cheesecake and cupcakes care of Billy’s in Chelsea. We’ll be tuning into ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ and then will head off to a pre-midnight mass performance of Messiah.

Tomorrow, Christmas day dinner of roasted, stuffed chicken and potatoes and cauliflower and followed by a cuisine homage to my mom: the trifle dessert. In seeking to confim my recollection of how to prepare a couple of dishes I was amazed to see just *how* South African this meal is. Search for “gammon glazed” on Google and your top hits will include Food24 and Pick’nPay!

Well, here’s wishing you and yours a wonderful festive season, whereverand however you’ll be spending it!
