“It’s never too early to start reading to your baby,” say all the baby rearing books, plus it seems like a natural compunction to do so, especially when one grew up literally surrounded by a few thousand books in the home library.
In addition to being read various items ranging from bank statements and Time Out New York listings to thought pieces in Harper’s, Calvin’s age-appropriate reading favourites currently include Black on White (or was that White on Black?) and Brown Bear as seen in this photo (thanks M&C&O).
Two other favourites include Fuzzy Yellow Ducklings, Good Night Moon (thanks R&D&C&P) and Madeleine (in French.) He sometimes assists in turning the pages, in both directions. A skill that will be most helpful when someone teaches him to read Chinese or Arabic (we’re hoping!)
