CJ and Calvin eagerly contemplate the cake as Grammy and I look on

As befits a two-year-old toddler, we had two little celebrations. This is the one at creche.

The difference from last year was amazing! Last year, fruit and cereal splatted the floor and various little party goers spent more time exploring what was underneath the tablecloths (the table) than anything else.

This year, the modest group of eight sat around the table, requesting more of specific types of fruit, or politely declining fruit because, “only birthday cake, please!”

Despite the very rudimentary. organic banana cake gussied up to look like my approximation of a train, every little person recognized it as… the train it was intended to be.

The birthday boy was extremely excited. “Train gateau!” he declared excitedly spotting it in the fridge in the morning, and he kept peeking at it in its box as we transported it to creche. (It would never have made it without the extra pair of Grammy hands, and the excellent box which had contained gifts from SL.)

Calvin got a little upset when we started to cut the cake, and for a moment I thought we might have to keep it all in tact. We were able to remind him that it was okay and ‘for eating’ and once one of the cookie wheels fell off his curiousity outweighed his dismay at the cleaving.

After a fun hour we headed home and Calvin got to open presents. But you’ll have to wait for the next post for that.
