Here I am in Copenhagen, and now I understand why everyone raised their eyebrows and smiled knowingly when they discovered that I had not yet checked into my hotel: the WakeUp Copenhagen. They described it as “functional,” “pragmatic,” “capsule-like” and “minimal.” Note, “minimal” and not “minimalist.” And here’s why…

Cool capsule-sized room in Copenhagen -- good design makes it seem spacious enough.

Measuring a slim 20 by 9 feet, it’s a slimline hotel room. The shower is a round, vertical tube, integrated with the rest of the small-sized bathroom. The wardobe is nonexistent. Having recently spent time on a ship though, its spacious and well designed – fitting a demi-lune desk, two chairs and more than enough room to move around. Best of all, it’s really reasonably priced in a twon where a small coffee will set you back $6.20.
